Dr Paul Bowden is the Principal Clinical Psychologist at Go Psychology based on the Gold Coast.
At Go Psychology we treat a wide range of psychological problems occurring in both teenagers and adults. The most prevalent problems with adults and teenagers are depression and anxiety, but teenagers often display behavioural problems as a result of their mental health issues.
No referral is required but we usually treat clients under Medicare, Workers Compensation and DVA.
Paul specialises in a wide range of mental health issues and all treatment offered is natural, working to change thought patterns, behaviour patterns, and targeting the underlying problems that a person may have, that impact on your life and your problems, as opposed to taking medication. The current evidence is very clear that psychological “talk therapy” changes the brain pathways whereas taking medication (including anti-depressants) does not make any change to the brain pathways.
During psychological treatment you will discover new ways to think, new ways to act or behave, gain understanding into the patterns that have led you to suffering from mental health problems, discover the things that really matter to you, and learn more effective ways to cope and live more fully, so that you can improve the quality of your life.
Some people may think that psychological treatment is a long process, and for some people it may be. The majority of clients at Go Psychology make changes in their lives within the first several sessions of therapy. I like to think of psychological treatment as any other skill, in that you first have to learn the skills, and then it takes practice, practice, practice to get better at applying those skills. If you are after a quick fix, then psychological therapy is not for you. But if you are prepared to put in effort to change your life, then you are an excellent candidate for psychological therapy.
Paul has completed a Doctor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Queensland, and this is the highest qualification a Psychologist can attain. He is a Full Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and a Member of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
Paul has worked in private practice for 7 years and is very down to earth with a passion for helping people. Paul likes to keep up to date with the latest information and research, so you can be assured that you will be receiving the cutting edge treatment in Psychology in 2014.
Paul understands that taking the step to enter therapy is very difficult and in his experience the hardest part is getting to the first session, but once you are there you will find the experience worthwhile, and if you don’t then you won’t pay anything for that session.
If you need help, phone 07 5580 9212 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Paul’s friendly reception team will take your call and he will be sure to return your call promptly to provide you a personal service, discuss fees, and make your booking.
Psychological treatment is extremely affordable, and in many cases can be free under Medicare, so don’t let the financial barrier get in the way of change.
You can attend his private rooms in Robina on the Gold Coast, with free and convenient parking at the front door, or an outreach service is also available if appropriate.
